God of War Series to Launch on Amazon Prime

The rumored God of War TV adaptation on Amazon has received approval. In March, it was said that Amazon was in talks to create a Prime Video series based on the well-known video game franchise. On Wednesday, Amazon announced that the project has received official approval.

The series would supposedly follow a plot similar to Sony’s amazing God of War reboot from 2018 according to a synopsis published by Deadline on Wednesday:

The main character of the television series is Kratos, the God of War, who renounces violence in the Norse realm of Midgard after leaving his violent past in ancient Greece. Kratos sets out on a risky journey with their estranged son to carry out his late wife’s dying wish—to disperse her ashes from the tallest mountain—after she passes away. Kratos learns quickly that the journey is actually a covert epic adventure that will try his bond with his son and force him to engage in fresh God and monster warfare to determine the fate of the Earth.

The series would be live-action, according to Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, in a statement to Deadline, but the story makes no mention of any actual cast members. (Perhaps bring back Christopher Judge, who recently won a Game Award for his role as Kratos in God of War Ragnarök?) Although we don’t know when the show would air, Deadline reports that it will be available in more than 240 countries and territories.

Cory Barlog, who helmed God of War 2018 and served as creative director for Ragnarök, is one of the new show’s executive producers. He hinted to his involvement and said “it will take a while” in a strange tweet on Wednesday.
